Finally I got around to doing the backlight mod on my FrSky Taranis X9D PLUS transmitter. I have wanted to convert the stock blue / cold white color of my stock display to a shade of orange for so long! And also replace my scratched screen cover while I am at it...
As a mod it is pretty much straight-forward: access the stock SMD LEDs and replace them with the color combination of your choice. In the backlight settings of the X9D you can adjust the intensity of each of the two LED colors and achieve the color you need.
Performing the mod is where it becomes tricky. Putting my carelessness aside, which was the reason why I damaged the ribbon cable of my display, the panel of the backlight was so well stuck to the PCB boards of the LEDs that I had to break the two short edges, in order for it to be detached. I hope yours has not adhered so firmly... Thanks to Minichado for helping out - also thanks to KokoblokoFPV for his spare LCD display :)

If you find SMD soldering intimidating, just make sure you use a fine clean tip, thin solder and tweezers. There is plenty of room around the LEDs so take your time and solder them one by one, flush to the board. If you have never soldered SMD before, make sure you practice before performing this mod.
